Common Questions:

Q: I have an urgent issue. Who should I call?
A: If it is a police related matter such as current vandalism, contact the local Johnston Police (515-278-2345). Other issues, such as an item that poses a safety issue should be brought to the attention of Knapp Properties. Call: 515-222-5206

Q: How often does the board meet and do they meet on weekends?
A: The board meets every other month at Dahl's on 86th St. in the 2nd floor conference room. The schedule for 2009 will be posted here soon.

Q: What kind of committees do you have?
A: Our various committees are:
  • Grounds & Property Committee;
  • Covenants Committee;
  • Audit Committee;
  • Nominating Committee;
  • Events Committee:
  • Budget Committee;
  • Web Site Committee.

Other committees, such a those for special events, are occasionally appointed and then dissolved.

Q: How do I volunteer?
A: Like all volunteer organizations, GMW relies on volunteers. If you are interested in helping, simply notify a board member, or drop us a line through the "Contact Us" page. Let us know if you have a specific committee you are interested in supporting.

Q: What are some of the "special events?"
A: There are currently two events being planned for 2009. The first is a neighborhood garage sale. A firm date is not set, but will likely be in mid-May. The second event is our neighborhood "Picnic in the Park." The tentative date for that is September 13, 2009.

Q: Does GMW employ a management firm?
A: Yes. It is Knapp Properties. Our manager is Cyndy Rath. Her number is 515-222-5206. Her email address is Cyndy.Rath@knappproperties.com

Q:
Does GMW have covenants?
A: Yes. Covenants were developed to help protect the beauty and function of our development and our investments. Each plat has its own covenants. See the covenants page for details.

Q: Are dues mandatory?
A: Yes. Realtors should inform new homeowners of the dues requirements during disclosure. Please keep in mind our association manages several hundred acres of common property and a sizable budget. This involves maintaining a gazebo, parks, entry ways, irrigation systems, lighting, mowing, common area tree replacement and the like. All of this takes a lot of money and volunteer time. But this effort helps keep our properties attractive and safe.

Q: What if I don't pay my dues?
A: Homeowners are obligated to pay. Late fees are added to delinquent bills. If the homeowner refuses to pay, the association will place a lien on property.

Q: How do I rent the Gazebo?
A: First of all, the Gazebo is for GMW homeowners only. Contact shellyp@knappproperties.com (515-222-5206)

Q: Who do I contact if I'm interested in participating on the board or as a volunteer?
A: Great! Simply contact a current board member or contact us via email. The board role involves submission of a short application. New board members are nominated and elected at the GMW annual meeting, which is normally held in late January.

Q: Who do I contact if I have a question or issue?
A: If you already know a board member, give him/her a call. Or, you can use the "Contact Us" page. Your request will be forwarded to the right person for an answer.
